About our Natural Undyed Veg Tan Cowhide Splits:

* In the tanning process, when veg tan topgrain sides are processed, the underpart of the side (known as the split) is separated and sold separately. Grainy on both sides, pieces are medium weight (ranging approximately between 3 to 4 ounce) with pleasantly firm hand. (This is NOT topgrain tooling leather with a smooth side; please see our other listings for topgrain veg tan tooling leather for that product).

* Each piece is 2 SF; they are a natural light tan color, and are relatively even in thickness and consistency for splits. A lot of great leather for the money… Costs way more on the open market, if you can find it. We have shipped hundreds of these sides to happy customers all over the country.

* Great for knife sheaths, pet toys, key fobs, straps, mocassins, shoe insoles, Native American crafts, strops for knife sharpening, belt and purse linings, shop aprons, fringes and trims, garment applications; inlays, repairs, pillow backings, patches, woodburnings, scout crafts, and a thousand other uses…

Great for cutting insoles for shoes and boots when you cannot find them pre-cut These are very high-quality leather pieces, much better than I had expected for the price. No funny chemical smells or strange unknown dyes that bleed, just plain normal leather. Vegetable tanning is by far a superior method of processing leather, especially when compared to the modern harmful chemical methods that ruin the leather. Leather is a natural material that is perfect for people with allergies or sensitivities to synthetic materials such as neoprene. Leather is breathable and when…

Horrible leather no matter the application. See included photos and corresponding info Don’t buy.. this leather is so hard it feels like it’s going to crack when you bend it (it won’t, but that’s the feel it gives). The tooling abilities are absolute garbage. The grain side (the side that you would tool and that should be smooth), is super fuzzy, and the flesh side (the back side of the leather) is so rough it feels like sand paper. See included photosFirst photo is of the grain side that you would tool or stamp, the side that would be seen. And yet it’s excessively fuzzy…

Buyer beware! This is NOT as described. There is in no way a justifiable excuse to call this “medium weight” leather. I bought this to make knife sheaths. I haven’t measured the thickness but it is MAYBE 1mm thick. It would be unsafe to carry a fixed blade knife in leather so thin. The leather also had marks on it that would show up if trying to tool it and then dye. Further, it comes tightly wrapped in paper with the label and paper all taped up. So there is no way to get into it without tearing…
